Compelling Film About Friendship, Prejudices, and Life in Congo

Johannesburg, South Africa – Feb 19, 2015 – The compelling feature film, “The Heart of Africa,” recently launched a Kickstarter campaign and has raised more than a third of the goal. With 139 backers and 27 days left in the campaign, they are continuing to receive support for this life-changing movie. The campaign is set to end on March 16th, 2015.

“The Heart of Africa” is based off the experiences of missionaries between a Congolese former revolutionary and a young man from Idaho who has never encountered black people before. Audiences will be taken on a journey as they set aside prejudices to work together in spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ to the African continent. The film will show the beauty of the Democratic Republic of Congo that is seldom shown, while highlighting the struggles and daily lives of missionaries in Africa.

Margaret Blair Young, the creator of the film, has collaborated with Aime Mbuyi, a former revolutionary and now missionary, to get full descriptions of how revolutionary meetings normally go. This includes realistic songs sung by the boarding schools  of where he used to live. Prominent director Steling Van Wagenen will use his expertise to convey the story between two individuals and how they forge a strong friendship despite their differences to spread the word of Christ.

The film will be a bi-continental film with majority of the scenes shot in South Africa and some in Kinshasa, DR-Congo. The “Out of Africa” production team has already begun making necessary preparations to make sure locations are safe and secure during filming. The team will be lead by Hweku Mandela and Samantha Putter. “Heart of Africa” has received grants to fund most of the project from Independent Features Project. This is a great honor, since only two percent of films actually get accepted.

Now they need additional funds to get the team to Africa to begin preliminary shooting. If the campaign raises more money, they will be able to add quality editing and compelling music. They plan to premier the transforming film in Kinshasa, DR-Congo first, then move to other African cities. After, the team will show the film in the United States.

Filmmakers hope to bring to light a new view of the Congo and the beauty of an unlikely friendship between two people.
